TPAT Super Orchestra – What a First Rehearsal!
On Tuesday 10th February, the very first TPAT Super Orchestra rehearsal took place at Helston Community College, bringing together 150 instrumentalists from 15 schools, across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5, for an unforgettable day of music-making.
Led by professional musician, conductor, composer and arranger Patrick Bailey, students aged 7 to 18 worked side by side in a large-scale ensemble. From first-time orchestra performers to experienced musicians, the room was filled with focus, resilience, enthusiasm and kindness.
More confident players stepped up to mentor and support others, creating a truly inclusive and collaborative atmosphere. By the end of the day, the Super Orchestra proudly performed arrangements of As Winds Dance and Wellerman – an incredible achievement for a first rehearsal.
Primary Teacher, Landewednack feedback:
“The progress across the day was remarkable. From the first notes to the final performance, the transformation was immense. The pieces sounded fantastic – a truly wonderful orchestral experience.”
Amanda Bradley-Metcalf, TPAT Music Lead:
“This project was created to unite musicians from across the trust in a large-scale ensemble. Seeing students of all ages working together with such kindness, effort and resilience has been incredibly powerful. From learning to follow a conductor for the first time to confidently mentoring others, this is the true value of making music together.”
Year 8 student, Mullion:
“Today I made a new friend and played in an orchestra for the first time. I loved it and I’m really proud of myself.”
A huge well done to every student involved – an inspiring start to the TPAT Super Orchestra journey.
