Abbie Dennison the PE Coordinator for Alverton primary School and a Specialist Leader in Education for PE, has throughout the year been working for the Youth Sports Trust on a highly successful Girls Active project. She has not only worked with the girls within the school, but also engaged the community. This has been working with local clubs, but also initiatives such as back to netball and Mum and Daughter dance classes on site at the school. Please see the following video to how she has inspired the next generation to have fun and participate in Physical Education and physical activity. https://www.facebook.com/RAASCornwall/videos/423032981618910
This project was nationally shortlisted for its innovation and engagement within the local community. One of the wider elements of the project Abi organised, was TPAT’s 1st festival: “girls active sports festival” for over 40 KS2 girls took part from across the TPAT Penwith Hub based at Penwith College. This was a highly successful event with Coaches from local clubs, and Penwith College Sports Leaders working with the girls. Watch the following video to see the event https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfv96qJy2b0&t=13s and the why it is so important to complete opportunities like this across the Trust. Next year there will be one per term in each hub across the college sites, working on the good practice this festival developed.
